Water Pump

To make room for the oil cooler to mount in front of the radiator, I needed to move my electric cooling fan from in front of the radiator (pusher) to behind the radiator (puller).  I had removed the engine driven cooling fan and shroud a couple years ago and have been using my Megasquirt controller to run the electric cooling fan.

The problem was that there was not enough room between the radiator and the E21 water pump pulley to mount the fan in that location.  The solution is to use a 2002 water pump and pulley.  The nose on the 2002 water pump is about 5mm shorter than the E21 pump and the face of the pulley is 17mm closer to the engine.  I'm hoping this provides the needed room for the electric fan.

Radiator

The radiator I'm using is the original brass tanked radiator that came with the car.  These are far superior to the plastic tanked version used on post-'79 E21s.  I had the radiator re-cored with a modern high-efficiency core a couple years ago and it has been doing a good job up until now.  I don't expect any problems with it.
